Appearances
Born in Douglasville, Georgia, Cary Guffey made his film debut in the 1977 Steven Spielberg film Close Encounters of the Third Kind at the age of three. In 1979, he appeared in the movie The Sheriff and the Satellite Kid and its sequel Everything Happens to Me, with Bud Spencer.
Considering he was only 3-1/2 years old, he had never seen a movie before shooting Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977), so in the middle of shooting his parents showed him a double feature Bambi (1942) and Gus (1976).
Other screen accomplishments include Poison Ivy (1985) with Michael J. Fox.
He has been married to Michelle Quillen Guffey since April 5, 1997. They met in college and have two children. Michelle is a reporter for the Birmingham News.
Cary graduated from West Windsor High School in Princeton, NJ. and then earned his MBA from Alabama's Jacksonville State University in Marketing.
As of May 2003 he is a Financial Planner for Merrill Lynch in Birmingham, Alabama.
Quote: "I don't want the greatest thing I do in life to be something I did when I was 4 years old [referring to his role in Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)]. I am trying to grow and develop all my gifts and talents, not trying to grow into a shirt that is too small for me."
Guffey made his last onscreen appearance in the 1985 miniseries North and South.
